Food Revolution Day 2014 #FRD2014 and a Special Ploughman’s Lunch


Jamie Oliver’s international campaign Food Revolution Day 2014 kicks off today! Food revolution day is a global day, dedicated to keeping cooking skills alive.

“We believe that everyone should know about food and it starts with getting kids food smart, making cooking fun and inspiring a love of food that will last a lifetime.” 

The plan is to prepare a healthy and tasty Rainbow Salad Wrap, or any other of the delicious dishes, featured here, completely from scratch. Although I don’t think I’ll need any more convincing to get in the kitchen and have a great time.

I’m very impressed to see the amount of participants that have signed up to the campaign, and according to the stats on the website,

“To date, 74 countries have taken part and over 900 ambassadors are championing our cause worldwide.”

In recognition of Food Revolution Day I would like to share with you a recipe that I styled and photographed with Nathan Li recently, that will appear in our upcoming cookbook. I’ve adapted the recipe for a Ploughman’s Lunch that was submitted by Beppie Keane in the photos below. The great thing about this dish is that there are no rues, simply gather all the wonderful veggies and dips you have at your disposal, pop them on a board and have a great time with your family and friends. Prep Time 30 mins | Cooking Time 20 mins | Serves 4-6


  • 2-4 eggs, boiled, peeled
  • 1 zucchini, peeled into ribbons with a vegetable peeler, lightly fried
  • 2 yellow squash, thinly sliced, lightly fried
  • 6-8 baby Roma tomatoes
  • 1 bunch broccolini, steamed
  • 1 red capsicum, sliced
  • 150g green beans, trimmed, steamed
  • 1 handful black olives
  • 1 bunch radish, scrubbed to remove dirt
  • 150g cheddar cheese
  • 1 sourdough baguette, or other bread of your choice, sliced, toasted
  • Range of dips (I’ve used pesto and zucchini hummus)

Prepare the ingredients according to the directions above. Arrange on a clean wooden board, or other serving platter. Try to blend the colours evenly over the whole board to make it appealing, and don’t forget to have fun 🙂
